Great success for our girls basketball team!

We had a very historic day last Wednesday 14th with our first ever basketball match with the first year girls. We have entered the regional development league in order to develop the game within the school. The girls have been training hard since September and made great progress.

We were drawn against  Scoil Ui Mhuirí, Dunleer  in our first game had a strong start to the league winning the game 34:18 . Our top scorer on the day was Princess Okonkwo who scored 12 points followed by  Pelumi Adesanya scoring 10. Scores also from Caoimhe Campas, Grace Mulligan, Sorcha Ó' Reilly and the final score from Somie Mefor.  We had strong offensive and defensive play and were delighted with our win.

Our second game was Tuesday 20th January against Coláiste na hInse , Laytown. Both teams were equally matched and the game was very close indeed. Our first score came from Princess Okonkwo who scored 6 points, followed by scores from Grace Muilligan and Mia Harrison, the final quarter was a nail biting finish with only one basket between the two teams. We managed to retain our tight defense and narrowly took the game, final score was 9/7.

Well done to all the girls and training continues every Wednesday after school .

Christmas Hamper Appeal for the Dundalk Lions Club

The students of Coláiste Chú Chulainn were busy throughout the month of December collecting food and drinks for the Lions Club Christmas Hamper Appeal. This year the Lions club were able to deliver 250 food hampers to families in Dundalk in the run up to Christmas. Declan Dempsey, the President of the Dundalk Lions club, and Catherine Doherty, the manager of the Christmas Hamper Appeal collected the food items from the school and expressed their sincerest thanks to the staff and students who helped with what we hope will become our Annual food drive for the Lions Club!
