Coláiste Chú Chulainn ag Comórtas Díospóireachta an Phiarsaigh

B'ócáid speisialta í an tseachtain seo nuair a d'fhreastail dhá fhoireann ó Choláiste Chú Chulainn ar Chomórtas Díospóireachta an Phiarsaigh don chéad uair riamh.  Thaistil dhá fhoireann, ceann acu as an Dara Bliain agus ceann acu as an Chuigiú Bliain go dtí Ceanannas agus go léir scoláirí eile a bhí ann chun tacaíocht a thabhairt.

Chun tús a chur leis an oíche, phléigh an fhoireann as an dara bliain an rún "Ba cheart dúinn fáil réidh le ham coigilte sholas an lae!"  sa chomórtas sóisireach.  Bhí an-phlé acu leis na foirinn eile a bhí ag glacadh páirte sa chomórtas agus bhain an lucht féachana an-sult as an díospóireacht.

I ndiaidh sin, thosaigh an comórtas sinsireach agus ba é "Tugamaid aire mhaith dár seanóirí in Éirinn" an rún a bhí ag na foirinn le phlé.  Bhí a lán idir láimhe sa phlé ag na foirinn; seirbhís sláinte, taisteal saor in aisce, agus obair charthanachta ina measc.  Labhair na daltaí uilig go han-mhaith le muinín agus líofacht agus moladh iad go léir go hard ag na moltóirí ag deireadh na hoíche.  Bhain na daltaí agus na múinteoirí an-sult as an oíche agus tá muid ag súil go mór leis an chomótas an bhliain seo chugainn cheana féin! Comhghairdeas ó chroí le gach duine a bhí ann.

It was a special occasion for students of Coláiste Chú Chulainn and the Irish Department of the school this week when two teams attended the debating competition Comórtas Díospoireachta an Phiarsaigh which was held in Kells, Co. Meath.  Two teams, as well as their supporters, travelled to the competition which was held in Eureka Secondary School to take part in the junior and senior competitions.

To begin the night the junior team discussed Daylight Savings Time and argued against the motion that it should be done away with.  The students, who came from a range of classes across 2nd year, spoke very well and made their points clearly and with passion.  Following that, the senior team made up of 5th year students argued in favour of the motion that elderly people are taken care of well in Ireland today.  The senior team made reference to the health service, free travel and the charity work that happens all across Ireland.

The judges praised all the speakers and commended them on their confidence and fluency.  Teachers  and students enjoyed their night and are already looking forward to next year's competition.  Congratulations to all involved!
