On Thursday morning last at 6:45 am, a group of tired but excited students and teachers met at the gates of Coláiste Chú Chulainn to get on our way for our foreign trip to visit Amsterdam in Holland! A fantastic, action pascked trip was had by all involved!
On Thursday afternoon we arrived in Amsterdam city having being picked up from the airport by our jovial bus driver Klauss. We stopped for a quick bite to eat before making our way to 'Mikes Bikes' for a bicycle tour of all the famous landmarks in the city. Cycling as the locals do, we saw everry corner, stopping for hot chocolates and buns along the way!
We stayed just outside the city in a wonderful transport museum turned hotel. The staff were friendly and the food was plenty!
On day two we made our way south of the city to Efetling theme park. At a piping 20 degrees (piping compared to Irelands temperatures this time of year!) we were quickly dried off after the log flume and splash coasters! The Baron, a huge 180ft vertical drop roller coaster, wasn't enough to scare off any Chú Chulainners (though you could hear B Uí Riodal and T Ó Luachrains screams from a mile away!)
Saturday came with another action packed itinerary. We started by travelling into the city to visit Madamme Toussauds, had our photos taken with the Avengers and E.T., before having a nice relaxing boat tour around the citys' canals. We took a break at a local market for lunch and then made our way to visit Anne Franks house - a harrowing but very worthwhile experience. In the evening we visited a traditional Dutch village equipped with windills, clog making factories and lots of cheese!
On our final day we made our way to the Van Gogh museum in the morning to see the collection of work by the great master, and then lunched in the Hard Rock Cafe. In the afternoon we visited the Ajax stadium, just a few hours before Holland were set to take on Germany. We finished our trip with a shopping spree in a large outlet shopping centre before an exhausted team of teachers and students made their way back to the airport. With our final goodbyes to Klauss we embarked upon our journey home, an amazing trip had by all!
