Whole School Assembly Celebrates All-Ireland Champions

Coláiste Chú Chulainn came together in celebration on Friday the 28th of February as the entire school community gathered for a special whole school assembly to honour our U19 Boys Basketball Team, who have been crowned All-Ireland Champions. The atmosphere was electric as the team was led into the assembly hall behind the Irish flag, with drums playing and cheers echoing throughout the hall.

Principal Mr. Sharkey opened the assembly by praising the remarkable achievement of the team, acknowledging their dedication and hard work throughout the season. He highlighted the importance of sport in school life and encouraged all students to get involved in extracurricular activities, emphasising the positive impact sport can have on both physical and mental wellbeing.

Each player had the opportunity to share their journey, offering inspiring insights into the determination, teamwork, and sacrifices that led to their historic victory. Their stories showcased the resilience and unity that carried them through each challenge on the road to becoming All-Ireland champions.

Head Coach Mr. Slowey also addressed the assembly, expressing his immense pride in the team. He commended their commitment to training, not just during the school year, but through summer holidays, midterms, and Christmas breaks. Mr. Slowey also thanked the entire school community for their unwavering support, particularly during the final, where the encouragement from students and staff made a huge difference.

The celebration reached a high point when team captain Franciszek Chmielecki declared a no homework day, met with rapturous applause from the delighted student body. The atmosphere was filled with pride, positivity, and inspiration, as many students expressed their aspirations to follow in the footsteps of their basketball heroes.
