Seachtain na Gaeilge
Students of Coláiste Chú Chulainn celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge with great spirit and enthusiasm. Students and staff immersed themselves wholeheartedly in a myriad of activities such as tráth na gceist (quiz), ceol agus amhránaíocht (music and singing), tomhas an lae (guess of the day), and comhrá agus cupán tae (chat and a cup of tea). As part of a nationwide celebration of Seachtain na Gaeilge and Lá an Fhorógra (Proclamation Day), schools were invited to sing the Irish song Oró ‘sé do bheatha bhaile and Amhrán na bhFiann. All students of Coláiste Chú Chulainn gave an impressive performance of these songs, with singing, and the accompaniment of the piano, bodhrán and tin whistles. Well done to all first and second year students who performed with such positivity and sense of celebration. All students attended Irish dancing workshops hosted by Sarah Woods who dances with Riverdance! Sarah is from Dundalk, and was very impressed with the enthusiasm shown by all students. On a cross–curricular level, students took part in an Art poster competition, where they created posters illustrating a seanfhocal of their choice. All staff of Coláiste Chú Chulainn made an extra effort to promote ‘an Ghaeilge’ in their classes and during the school day. As the seanfhocal says ‘ Beatha teanga í a labhairt’ (A living language is a spoken language). The highlight of Seachtain na Gaeilge for students was the céilí mór in the halla! Fun was had learning the steps to ‘Ballaí Luimní’, ‘Ionsaí na hInse’ and ‘Amhrán an Dreoilín’. Seachtain na Gaeilge 2016 drew to an end with ‘Bronnadh na nduaiseanna’ (Award ceremony). Bean Uí Liatháin congratulated all students on their involvement in the events and prizes and certificates were presented for the various competitions held during the week. Comhghairdeas to the prizewinners agus maith sibh uilig.
