School Of Sanctuary Committee 2026/27
At Coláiste Chú Chulainn, our School of Sanctuary Student Committee, alongside our four dedicated Cultural Ambassadors, plays an important role in promoting inclusion, diversity and belonging throughout our school community.
Our student committee works together to develop ideas, organise activities and raise awareness of the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone. Through initiatives such as Cultural Diversity Week, our Kindness Café and other celebrations of culture and identity, students actively promote friendship, respect and understanding across our school.
Our four Cultural Ambassadors take on a leadership role in championing cultural diversity, representing student voice and encouraging students from all backgrounds to share their cultures, traditions and experiences. They help guide our School of Sanctuary initiatives and ensure that inclusion and belonging remain central to school life.
Together, our committee and Cultural Ambassadors embody the School of Sanctuary principles of Learn, Action and Share, empowering students to lead positive change and ensuring that every member of our school community feels welcomed, respected and valued.
Their work reflects our school ethos of “Success for All”, demonstrating that student leadership is at the heart of building a truly inclusive School of Sanctuary.
- Coordinate the Sanctuary Journey: Plan, drive, and organize initiatives that embed a whole-school approach to inclusion across teaching, policies, relationships, and daily life.
- Implement the Three Core Principles:
- Learn: Educate the school community on what it means to seek sanctuary (e.g., through classroom topics, guest speakers, or cultural awareness).
- Action: Launch practical steps and visible signs of welcome (such as cultural corners, multi-cultural days, pledges, or student ambassador programs).
- Share: Connect with the wider community, local councils, families, and other schools to spread the vision of inclusion.
- Empower Student Voice: Ensure students take an active role in organizing events, promoting cultural understanding, and acting as Sanctuary ambassadors.
- Compile the Portfolio of Evidence: Gather documentation—such as meeting notes, photographs, curriculum resources, feedback, and project evaluations—to demonstrate compliance with the sanctuary criteria
